अगर देश में स्वतंत्र और ईमानदार मीडिया नहीं बचा, तो लोकतंत्र के बचे रहने की कल्पना कोई मूर्ख ही कर सकता है. लोकतंत्र को बचाना हो तो पहले मीडिया को बचाइए। मीडिया कैसे बचे। कोई जादुई चिराग़ नहीं कि रातोंरात हालात सुधर जाएं. लेकिन शुरुआत कहीं से तो करनी ही पड़ेगी। तो मीडिया को बचाने का पहला रास्ता तो यही है कि संपादक नाम की संस्था को पुनर्जीवित किया जाय और मज़बूत किया जाए। मीडिया की आमदनी लानेवालों और ख़बरें लानेवालों के बीच बड़ी दीवार हो, मीडिया के अन्दरूनी कामकाज और उसकी स्वायत्तता की मॉनिटरिंग का कोई स्वतंत्र, तटस्थ, स्वस्थ और भरोसेमन्द मेकेनिज़्म हो। यह सब कैसे होगा? लंबा रास्ता है। लेकिन पहले हम और आप इस तरफ़ सोचना तो शुरू करें!
